SPAIN - “ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS”

THIS IS A GAME WE USUALLY PLAY TO DECIDE WHAT TEAM STARTS TO PLAY.

Game description:

1. ORIGIN

It is an ancient game of Chinese origin.

Nowadays, it is popular all around the world.

It is useful for making “important” decisions; for example, who tidies up the room.

2. PLAYERS

Two people

3. WHAT YOU NEED

You have to learn these hand gestures:

-          Rock – one closed fist

-          Paper – one flat hand

-          Scissors – your 2 first fingers opened (index and middle)

4. HOW TO PLAY

Players hide their hands behind their backs.

Each player chooses secretly one of the 3 options.

Then, the players say “rock, paper, scissors” and reveal their choices at the same time.

Rules:

-          Scissors cut paper

-          Paper covers rock

-          Rock smashes scissors

If both players show the same option, it is a “draw” and they have to play again.

The winner is the first one to beat the other one.

Usually, it’s played in 3 rounds.

Number of player  The ideal number of players is 8 and above.  As the number of players increases, the game can become more exciting and fun.  Required Field  The game can be played indoors or outdoors.  The enclosed area must be large.  Example Playgrounds: Large living room, garden, schoolyard, kindergarten, small backyard, playground or gym.  Necessary materials  Only one handkerchief [1] is required for the game.  Instead of a handkerchief, you can use a napkin or a piece of cloth. Players: It´s a team game. We need two people at least. Materials: Old Spanish deck-cards/ old cards. We cut the card in half , make a cross with the two parts, and fold it . We have the “patacones” On one side we have “heads” on the other one  we have “tails” Rules: Each player has several “patacones” At the beginning of the games it is decided how many “patacones" each player plays/bets and the order of the players. Opposite a Wall we draw a line. From the line we trow “the patacones“ against the Wall. Each player has also decided “head or tails” “The patacones" which matches with their  bets are the winners, the rest are thrown after them. When there are no more “patacones” left, they  begin again. The “Patacones” can be thron one by one or all at a time, but this has to be decided at the beginning of the game.
